STREET GANGS

Street Gangs continue to be a leading concern for the public and Police within Saskatchewan. Street gangs prey on the vulnerable exploiting addictions, mental health and family unit challenges for the purpose of furthering their criminal enterprise.   

Street Gangs are a leading cause of many public safety concerns. 

Many homicides, drug trafficking and property crimes are directly or indirectly tied back to Street Gangs and organized crime.

Saskatoon Police Service has worked extensively with our community partners to try and understand youth in Gangs. 

Understanding the reason youth are drawn to gangs can assist with gang prevention. This same understanding can assist a young person or adult leave the gang lifestyle when ready.

The Definition of a Gang

Section 467.1 of the Criminal Code, a Criminal organization (or a gang) is defined as:

An organized group of three or more, that as one of its main purposes or main activities is the facilitation of commission of one or more serious offences, that, if committed, would likely result in the direct or indirect receipt of a material benefit, including a financial benefit, by the group or by any one of the persons who constitute the group.
